About
My name is Bill Solominsky, as you can tell by the title of this blog. My basic info:
I grew up near Pittsburgh, PA and am an avid Steeler, Penguin, Panther, and yes, Pirate fan. I attended Carnegie Mellon University and majored in Electrical and Computer Engineering, obtaining a Bachelors and Masters degree. My career then took me to Melbourne, FL to work for Harris Corp, a government defense contractor. I worked in the Digital Signal Processing department and worked tirelessly on algorithm development, mostly using MATLAB. After 4 years, I moved to Austin, TX to pursue my MBA at the University of Texas.
Upon graduation, I started National Event Rental, a vacation rental site dedicated to short term events. In early 2009 at the height of the bailout/stimulus controversy, I was part of 3 person team that started BankOfObama.org, a site that allows people to send novelty bailout checks to friends and family.
All of these experiences helped shape my business interests. I love creating features and products for web based mediums, especially consumer oriented in disruptive industries. My technical geek side pours over the analytic stats, trying to determine which marketing efforts work best. My skills allow me to be an excellent translator between technical and business teammates.
In addition to watching Pittsburgh and UT teams, I continue to play for Sunday league soccer teams in Austin, along with the occasional kickball game. I have traveled to some far away places, such as Victoria Falls, South Africa, New Zealand, Austrailia, and Eastern Europe.
I plan to use this blog to share my thoughts on interesting topics that require more than 140 characters to express.
